June 2011
On Thursday June 16, 2011 I had a very humbling experience, I visited with some of our wounded warriors on the amputee floor at Walter Reed Hospital. When I looked at these brave men and women I said to myself "My problems are not that bad". May God bless them and all our warriors in harm's way. The new membership year will begin on July 1, 2011. You should be receiving your 2012 renewal notice shortly. As in the past our goal is to be at 100% by 12/31/2011 at if possible to be at 110% by the Legions birthday. We did go over the top for 2011 but missed both our membership goals. You can help us to meet our goals by renewing your membership early. Have a great summer. We are now on facebook. Visit us at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/American-Legion-Post-171/112908382081566?ref=ts. Let me know if there is anything you think should be on our WEB or facebook pages. McCourt, Director of the VA Regional office in Newark, New Jersey veterans
receive some of the lowest monthly disability compensations in the nation?
Case review reveals rates are low because too many veterans have not filed
for increased payments even as their disabilities have worsened. This
includes veterans who have combat injuries. FYI The new
cards are of a patriotic design with a large color photo. The veteran
should bring their old card with them to prove eligibility. They are also
bar coded to promote privacy and to accelerate checking in. Further information
may be obtained by calling 973-676-1000 Page Updated
